Read →Updated 2026-09-19Otto is a sea otter swept away from home by a mysterious event, and the whole game is about finding the way back: swimming, diving, climbing and gliding across an open world of islands, kelp forests and hidden caves. There is no combat and no timer — the challenges are soft puzzles, ingredient hunts and reaching places that looked impossible a few hours earlier.
Otterly Lost releases on Steam on September 23, 2026. Everything on this site is checked against the official Steam posts, the store page and the demo build, and each page says which of those a claim came from.

What is confirmed for the full game
The release announcement lists four things beyond the demo:
- Otto's story from beginning to end, including a prologue that was not in the demo
- new biomes both above and below the water
- new characters and their stories
- more places to discover than the demo's slice
Two demo updates also reshaped the early game in ways that stay in the full build: the Favorite Rock became your primary tool instead of a fixed animation, and navigation gained a world map, a journal, landmarks that appear as you find them, and fast travel.
What the demo already teaches you
- The Favorite Rock is your main tool. You keep moving while you use it, and it breaks shellrocks, sea urchins, crates and other obstacles for loot.
- Shells are the currency. Purchases show your shell count in the dialogue, and cosmetics and services are paid for with them.
- Tools gate progress. Digging and cutting tools open up areas that a rock cannot touch, and later in the demo you start building tools of your own.
- Quests are ingredient lists. Thalor's first request is a sea salad: 3 crunchy lily pads, 6 leaves of tender cave lettuce and 13 ripe shoreberries — and it is the part of the demo most players get stuck on.
Where to start
- Release date, platforms and demo status — the timing, the delisting and what carries over
- Demo guide — everything the demo covered, including the salad quest
- Beginner guide — controls, your first tools and the map
- Tools and upgrades — what each tool opens and how abilities level up
- Tips and FAQ — multiplayer, Steam Deck, motion sickness settings and the rest
